Jasprit Bumrah is ready to miss the crucial fifth Test against England after being advised rest by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s medical team. In accordance with a report in ESPNcricinfo, Akash Deep will replace him in the primary 11 after missing out on the previous Test at Old Trafford because of a groin injury.
The event comes after head coach Gautam Gambhir declared post the drawn Test in Manchester that each one fast-bowlers, including Bumrah, were fit. Nonetheless, as per the report, the medical team has told Bumrah that the choice is according to his workload management to forestall any back injuries and protect his body for the long run.
Bumrah, coach Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill had already declared before the series that the premier pacer would play only three Tests this series. The workload management plan was put in place after he was sidelined for 3 months because of a stress injury in back picked up in Sydney in January through the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
In England, began in the primary at Headingley, was rested within the win at Edgbaston, before playing again at Lord’s and Old Trafford. Within the latter, India needed to bowl only once and it was the primary time Bumrah looked off the boil, taking two wickets in 33 overs (essentially the most for him in an innings) for a new-low 112 runs. His pace was also down, plus he was seen hobbling at times — all of the aspects looked as if it would have contributed to the choice.
Akash Deep to shoulder huge responsibility in Bumrah’s absence
This will not be the primary time Akash Deep is being relied upon to fill Bumrah’s huge shoes. Within the second Test at Edgbaston, he did it with aplomb, picking a rare 10-wicket haul for an Indian pacer.
Nonetheless, in that match, he got crucial support from senior pacer Mohammed Siraj. It must be seen what the team decides to do with Siraj, who’s the one pacer to feature in all 4 Tests thus far but in addition looked exhausted and coping with cramps in Manchester.
Left-arm quick Arshdeep Singh could possibly be in line for a debut call-up in case Siraj can’t be fielded, though it will be an equally big gamble with the series still in England’s favor at 2-1 before the decider. Anshul Kamboj, who made his debut at Old Trafford, and left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav would even be a part of the team’s pondering.
