One among the strongest earthquakes ever recorded has struck in Russia’s far east, sparking tsunami warnings across the Pacific.
People have been told to get to safety in higher ground after the 8.8 tremor began a tsunami within the northern Pacific.
Tsunami waves were already seen on Russia’s Kuril Islands and in Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido after the earthquake early on Wednesday.
Nearly two million people have evacuated on Japan’s east coast as tsunami waves could reach almost 10 feet.
China has also issued a warning as waves of up to 3 feet high are expected on its eastern coast.
Hawaii is bracing itself for 10-foot tsunami waves, and residents were told to right away leave coastal areas.
US President Donald Trump told Americans in Hawaii, Alaska and the Pacific Coast to remain alert ‘on account of an enormous earthquake.’
