Nintendo has finally announced official Switch 2 sales numbers, confirming the brand new console has sold 5.82 million units as of June 30, 2025. Meanwhile, the unique Switch continues on its beaten path, having sold 153.10 million units because it inches closer to the PlayStation 2 record of around 160 million units. As well as, Mario Kart World has sold 5.63 million units as of June 30, 2025, indicating nearly every Switch 2 owner has the sport.
Considering Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has sold 68.86 million units, it’s no surprise Mario Kart World is almost matching console sales one-to-one. Obviously, that ratio is unlikely to proceed as more Switch 2 units sell, however the Mario Kart World bundle is clearly working in the intervening time. It’s also a powerful first-month figure for the Switch 2, which officially launched on June 5, 2025. Since then, Donkey Kong Bananza has won over the hearts of many following its release on July 17, so it’ll be interesting to listen to those sales figures after this quarter ends.
Perhaps what’s more impressive is seeing the Switch 2’s first-month sales relative to the Wii U’s lifetime sales of 13.56 million units. All of us knew the Wii U was a disaster for Nintendo, but seeing these numbers side by side really shows just how poorly the Wii U performed.
