Written by Himanshu Sharma and directed by Aanand L Rai, Raanjhanaa — starring Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor within the leads- was loved by many. Now, over a decade later — due to the rise in AI use, the film was released with an AI-reimagined climax. While few have loved it, the film’s hero isn’t too pleased with the ending. Dhanush recently took to his social media and slammed the AI-created climax of Raanjhanaa, calling it “not the film I committed to 12 years ago.” Scroll below to know all he needed to say.
Dhanush On Raanjhanaa’s AI-Created Climax
On Sunday, Dhanush took to his social media and criticised the AI-altered version of the Anand L Rai directorial. Stating that he was never on board with this creation, the actor said, “The re-release of Raanjhanaa with an AI-altered climax has completely disturbed me. This alternate ending has stripped the film of its very soul, and the concerned parties went ahead with it despite my clear objection.”
He continued, “This isn’t the film I committed to 12 years ago. Using AI to change movies or content is a deeply concerning precedent for each art and artists. It threatens the integrity of storytelling and the legacy of cinema. I sincerely hope that stricter regulations are put in place to stop such practices in the long run.”
What’s The Altered Climax?
In the unique film, Dhanush’s character Kundan dies after being shot, with Zoya (Sonam Kapoor) by his side. Nonetheless, the brand new AI version shows Kundan surviving the injury. And he wakes up within the hospital as Bindiya (Swara Bhasker) and Murari (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub) tear up in joy.
Anand L Rai Not Pleased With AI-Ending
Alongside Dhanush, the film’s director isn’t too thrilled with the AI-altered climax. As per reports, the AI edit has already caused tension between Rai and the film’s production house, Eros. While the studio defended the changes and claimed rights to the content, Anand has publicly said the choice was made without his consent. The director also warned that this AI-edit has set a “dangerous precedent.” Alternatively, Eros accused Rai of using Raanjhanaa’s IP in his upcoming film Tere Ishk Mein, further fuelling the dispute.
