Manchester United are on the verge of securing a deal to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, in line with reports.

Newcastle submitted their opening bid for Sesko over the weekend but their offer of €75m (£65.5m), plus an extra €5m (£4.3m) in bonuses, was turned down by RB Leipzig.

Eddie Howe’s side followed that up with an improved offer of €80m (£69.5m), plus €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons for the 22-year-old.

United entered the race this week by submitting their very own bid for Sesko value €85m (£73.8m).

In accordance with The Athletic, Newcastle’s revised offer has been accepted by RB Leipzig but Sesko has made it clear that he wants to affix United.

The report claims that ‘all parties are aware’ of Sesko’s decision and United at the moment are working towards reaching an agreement over a fee with RB Leipzig.

Sesko was neglected of RB Leipzig’s penultimate pre-season friendly of the summer against Atalanta on Saturday and didn’t train with the team on Tuesday.

‘Because of very concrete interest from several clubs, we decided he wouldn’t play today,’ RB Leipzig’s sporting director, Marcel Schafer, said on Saturday.

‘Once I say there’s been strong interest and clubs have approached us directly, it’s obvious what meaning.

‘I intend to make it clear that this doesn’t mean he’s already on his solution to one other club. And it also doesn’t mean that Benji won’t play next week.’
