An American journalist who went missing while climbing on a glacier in Norway has been found injured but alive, local media reports.

Alec Luhn went missing on July 31 after he did not return from a hike in Folgefonna National Park.

He was on holiday in Norway along with his sister and had set off on the solo hike into the 212square mile park.

Award-winning Alec, 38, who has worked for a variety of news outlets including the BBC and the Guardian, was found alive on Wednesday afternoon, local police told Norwegian news outlet VG.

His wife, fellow award winning journalist Veronika Silchenko, reported him missing after he failed to point out up for his flight home to England, where he currently lives.

A spokesperson said Alec had suffered some injuries to his legs but was conscious on the time, and he has since been flown by helicopter to Haukeland Hospital.

Alec Luhn, a US-born reporter who has worked for the New York Times and the Atlantic, and was a regular Russia correspondent for the Guardian from 2013 to 2017, was reported missing on Monday after he failed to catch a flight to the UK from Bergen.

Veronika, who’s flying to Norway to be reunited together with her husband tomorrow, told local media she is ‘very very completely happy’ and gave due to everyone involved within the search.

Rescue crews used drones and dogs in the course of the search, but efforts were hampered by poor weather which meant helicopters were unable to patrol over the glacier where he went missing.

A team of 30 search and rescue volunteers from the Red Cross were all involved within the search on Tuesday after the search was suspended late on Monday on account of the weather.

Veronika told CBS News earlier this week: ‘Alec is essentially obsessive about the Arctic. He loves glaciers and snow, and he loves explorers.

‘He’s trying his best to go to the coldest countries.’
