India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal made a surprise U-turn after an equally stunning decision to go away Mumbai for Goa earlier this 12 months. Citing personal reasons, Jaiswal sought and eventually obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to go away the team where he began his skilled profession.

A timely intervention from India ODI captain Rohit Sharma and discussions with other top stars resulted in Jaiswal revisiting his plan to shift to Goa.

Based on a report in Mumbai Mirror, Rohit convinced Jaiswal that it wasn’t ideal to modify states at this point of his profession while reminding the role played by Mumbai in helping him achieve India dream.

“Rohit asked Yashasvi to remain on in Mumbai at this stage of his profession,” the publication quoted MCA president Ajinkya Naik as saying. “He (Rohit) explained to Yashasvi that there was a variety of pride and prestige in playing for a team like Mumbai, which has won the Ranji Trophy a record 42 times.”

“Rohit also told Yashasvi that he must not forget that it was due to Mumbai cricket that he got a platform to indicate his talent and go on to play for India, and he have to be grateful to the town for that. It was here in Mumbai that he began playing cricket on the maidans after which was picked for all of the age group teams of Mumbai,” he added.

In a letter to MCA in April this 12 months, the 23-year-old said he plans to relocate together with his family to Goa and due to this fact requested the association to permit give NOC to go away Mumbai and switch to a brand new team.

“After discussing this with Rohit and just a few other stalwarts who represented India and Mumbai, Jaiswal sent an email to us requesting us to withdraw his NOC for a shift to Goa. We approved his request,” Naik said.

Jaiswal moved from Uttar Pradesh to Mumbai on the age of 11 to pursue his cricket dreams. He regularly moved up the ranks before happening to represent India on the U-19 World Cup in 2020 where the team finished runners-up and he was picked as player-of-the-tournament. A 12 months before, he had created a storm by hitting a double-century for Mumbai within the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
