Indian men’s Test cricket team captain Shubman Gill will play within the Duleep Trophy 2025 for North Zone and captain them as well. Based on various media reports on Thursday (August 6), the 25-year-old right-handed batter from Punjab, who also captained Punjab within the Ranji Trophy match earlier this 12 months, will take the sphere for North Zone in the favored domestic red-ball tournament.
Within the Duleep Trophy 2025, North Zone will face East Zone in the primary quarterfinal match at BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground in Bengaluru from August 28 to 31.
Gill also played within the Duleep Trophy last 12 months and captained the India A team in the primary match. Nonetheless, under his leadership, India A suffered a defeat by 76 runs against the Abhimanyu Easwaran-led India B team.
In the primary match of the Duleep Trophy 2024, Gill scored 25 runs from 43 balls against India B in the primary innings and got out after making 21 runs from 35 balls within the second.
After playing the primary match of the Duleep Trophy 2024, Gill played within the two-match Test series against Bangladesh and scored an unbeaten century (119) within the second innings of the series opener played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from September 19 to 22.
Other than Gill, India’s Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal can even play within the Duleep Trophy for West Zone. Jaiswal was included within the West Zone squad last week, and the left-handed batter will play under the leadership of Shardul Thakur. Along with Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sarfaraz Khan were also named in West Zone’s squad.
Mumbai Indians’ batter Tilak Varma will play for South Zone within the Duleep Trophy 2025 and captain the side as well. Karnataka’s Devdutt Padikkal, Tamil Nadu’s Narayan Jagadeesan and R Sai Kishore are also a part of the South Zone’s squad.
Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan will captain the East Zone team, and the squad also includes the likes of Easwaran, Mukesh Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Akash Deep and Riyan Parag.
Gill scored 754 runs vs England
Within the recently concluded five-match Test series between India and England, Gill played all five matches, and with the assistance of 1 double century and three centuries, he scored a complete of 754 runs.
