James Maddison is anticipated to miss nearly all of the upcoming season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
The Tottenham star was stretchered off in Spurs’ pre-season friendly against Newcastle on Sunday.
The 28-year-old midfielder featured for lower than ten minutes before taking place in visible pain.
“It looks like with Madders [it’s] a nasty injury,” manager Thomas Frank said after the match.
Tottenham have now confirmed Maddison is ready to undergo surgery before starting his recovery.
“We will confirm that James Maddison will undergo surgery for a ruptured Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in his right knee,” the club said in a press release.

They added: “His surgery will happen in the approaching days and, following that, James will then begin his rehabilitation with our medical team.
