Alas Pilipinas loses to Thailand anew in SEA V.League Leg 2

Alas Pilipinas put up a troublesome fight but still fell to Thailand, 25-22, 25-17, 24-26, 25-16, Saturday within the second leg of the SEA V.League in Vietnam.

The Filipino spikers slid to 0-2 but not before stealing a set from the powerhouse Thais after ruling the prolonged third frame.

SCHEDULE: Alas Pilipinas Women at SEA V.League – Leg 2

This was the second time on this iteration of the four-nation tournament that Alas Pilipinas dragged Thailand into an prolonged game after losing a four-setter last week.

Angel Canino led that third-set fightback, scoring back-to-back points including a kill block that prolonged the match after the Thais raced to a 2-0 set lead.

In that set, the Philippines rallied from an early four-point deficit and edged Thailand in attacks, 17-16 and blocks, 3-1.

Alas Pilipinas managed to maintain its scrappy showing within the fourth set, even taking the lead, 8-9, on a degree from Shaina Nitura before Thailand got its act together and strung a 7-1 run that brought the momentum to its side for good.

The Thais, who struggled with their error-prone showing within the opening set, peppered the Philippine side with running attacks to maintain their clean record within the tournament intact and improve 2-0 in Leg 2.

They face Vietnam for the gold on Sunday.

The Filipinos, meanwhile, face a must-win against Indonesia–a team which they beat for bronze last week–to maintain their podium streak within the SEA V.League alive.

Alas Pilipinas dropped its opening match to the hosts Vietnamese on Friday night.
