The Indian women’s A team, led by Radha Yadav, were on Saturday, August 9, bowled out for just 73 runs while chasing 188 against the Australian women’s A side, with just over a month to go for the ODI World Cup, within the 2nd unofficial T20I at Mackay.
Opting to bowl first, India conceded 187 runs, riding on Alyssa Healy’s 44-ball 70, with Anika Learoyd and Courtney Webb contributing with cameos.
Radha picked two wickets, while Tanuja Kanwar and Minnu Mani conceded 56 runs of their 4 overs combined.
Within the chase, India could never construct a partnership and so they were reduced to 16/4 throughout the powerplay. Dinesh Vrinda was the best scorer with a 27-ball 21 as wicketkeeper Uma Chetry and Tanuja registered geese.
Healy’s 95-run stand with Tahlia Wilson (43 off 35) laid the inspiration for the hosts’ strong total, while last game’s half-centurion Learoyd (35) and Webb (26*) chipped in to push the rating towards the 200-run mark.
Healy, one of the feared batters in world cricket and a veteran of 162 WT20Is, bounced back from a modest outing within the previous game at the identical venue with a blistering knock laced with 12 fours.
Healy took an aggressive approach against Radha, smashing three boundaries within the sixth over, before repeating the dose against Minnu with one other trio of fours within the tenth.
Healy’s explosive start powered Australia A to 94/0 in the primary 10 overs before Radha removed Tahlia McGrath within the eleventh. Undeterred, Healy kept the onslaught going, cracking three more fours off Tanuja within the thirteenth over so as to add a brisk 15 runs to the full.
Radha had the last word, dismissing Healy within the fifteenth over. However the relief was short-lived, as Learoyd, fresh off a match-winning half-century within the previous match, took Minnu to task, smashing three fours in an over that leaked 16 runs.
India stumbled early, with big-hitting opener Shafali Verma departing for just three, her second low rating in a row after the high of playing a pivotal role in India’s historic maiden T20I series victory over England.
India and Australia play the third T20I on Sunday, August 10, in Mackay. The visitors lost the primary match by 13 runs.
