Jenny Han Hints at Belly’s Decision in Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3

The Summer I Turned Pretty series finale will reveal which Fisher boy is endgame for Belly Conklin.

“By the point it’s over, will there be a clear-cut decision?” Gayle King asked the series’ showrunner Jenny Han in the course of the Thursday, August 7, episode of CBS Mornings. “Because if it doesn’t end with a clear-cut decision, I’m going to be very upset.”

Han, 44, didn’t give anything away as she responded to the morning show host.

“I’d say so,” the writer replied while nodding her head.

Han, who wrote all three books in The Summer I Turned Pretty book series, also addressed whether fans would see the Prime Video show’s three important characters again.

Summer I Turned Pretty won’t be wasting any time in season 3 as Belly makes her final selection between Conrad and Jeremiah. Creator Jenny Han, who also wrote the favored book series, took to social media on Friday, December 6, to tease the upcoming season, writing via Instagram, “One thing I’ll say about season 3 […]

“I mean, you never know,” she said. “I’d like to because I really like the characters. I really like the world. I really like the forged.”

Lola Tung stars as lead Belly whose heart is torn between two brothers — Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno).

“They’re all young they usually’re all flawed human individuals who’re determining life. They’re at different points within the journey,” Han said of the show. “Hopefully, people can watch that and feel some sense of, like, connection to seeing people make mistakes but then be forgiven and hopefully find grace.”

The Summer I Turned Pretty’s third and final season premiered last month with Belly and Jeremiah in a (semi) committed relationship. After weeks of waiting for Conrad to do literally anything, the fans were fed with an episode from his viewpoint released on Wednesday, August 6. And, boy, was Team Conrad feral.

Han’s recent CBS Mornings appearance is hardly the primary time she’s addressed the top of Belly’s love story over the past few months.

“There are going to be surprises,” she told Entertainment Weekly in March. “There are the things that [book fans] know after which there are things they think they know, after which there’s going to be, hopefully, things that surprise them.”

The book series has (spoiler alert) Belly selecting herself — and a visit to check abroad — before reconnecting with Conrad, whom she ultimately finally ends up with.

During a separate interview with EW, Han said that a fourth season of the beloved series wasn’t totally ruled out.

“Never say never. If the story is there, then I’m there. As a storyteller, you only get hit with inspiration on a regular basis,” the writer said in June. “If I had a extremely great concept that I used to be excited by, that I desired to keep telling the story, and if [the stars] were excited to do it, then I can be so pumped. It really will depend on if I feel like there may be more story to inform.”
