Foulkes ended with match figures of 9-75, the very best overall haul by a Recent Zealand bowler on Test debut, surpassing Will O’Rourke’s 9-93 against South Africa in Hamilton in 2024. “It still hasn’t really kicked in, to be honest. It’s all happened pretty quickly. It was awesome to be on the market with the blokes. I don’t really know much else to say.
“It (the Test debut) was all slightly bit rushed. I’ve been on a white ball eating regimen, so the prospect of bowling a number of more overs and stuff definitely felt a bit sore on day two. Thankfully, we didn’t need to bowl on day two, which was nice. It was cool to get it back into red ball cricket.”
“Tommy actually ran a drink out and said you’re pretty near beating the record here. It’s just one among those things, really, and it’s awesome,” Foulkes was quoted as saying in a video by Recent Zealand Cricket (NZC) after the sport.
Here’s the table for that data:

What Did Zakary Foulkes Say?
He made his Test debut alongside fellow pacers Jacob Duffy and Matthew Fisher, who also contributed to the Black Caps’ success. “It was really cool. Duff’s kind of taken me under his wing, which is good. We’ve played slightly bit together for the Black Caps, which is cool.”
“Then Fisher, it’s awesome to see what he’s done the previous few years. It was awesome to see what he did on the market. He was bowling pretty quickly within the nets the opposite day, which wasn’t too nice. But it surely was awesome to see each those guys get a crack and achieve this well,” added Foulkes.
He also expressed his pleasure at playing alongside Matt Henry, who took 16 wickets within the series, and praised head coach Rob Walter’s clear and calm approach.
“Growing up, it was all the time Matt Henry, Trent Boult, Tim Southee. It’s awesome to be sharing the pitch with him now. I’ve played a handful of games with them for Canterbury and a number of training and stuff. So it’s awesome to be an element of this team with them.”
“It’s really enjoyable (to be playing under Walter’s coaching). He’s very clear and concise along with his comms. Really enjoyed his demeanour across the group. Everyone appears to be really having fun with themselves with Rob.”
