Chelsea have decided to not compete with Liverpool over a deal for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, in keeping with reports.

Enzo Maresca has been dealt a significant blow ahead of the brand new Premier League season next week as Levi Colwill has been ruled out for nearly all of the campaign with an ACL injury.

Speaking after his side’s 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen at Stamford Bridge on Friday night, Maresca indicated that Chelsea could enter the marketplace for a brand new centre-back attributable to Colwill’s lengthy absence.

‘It’s a priority for me,’ Maresca said.

‘Levi is a incredible player. What we achieved last season is due to him. He played loads of games with me, I like him. We’re going to miss him. We’re also trying to search out different solutions.’

The 25-year-old, who got here through Chelsea’s academy but made just two first-team appearances before joining Palace for £18 million 4 years ago, will probably be out of contract next summer.

Speaking ahead of his side’s Community Shield tie against Liverpool on Sunday, Palace manager Oliver Glasner admitted Guehi will make the ultimate call over his future.

‘Marc and me, we’ve got the identical fate but I can’t speak on behalf of Marc. In the long run, it’s at all times the player’s decision and Marc will resolve his future,’ Glasner said.

‘In fact, everybody wants Marc to sign a brand new contract, everybody who’s connected to Crystal Palace a minimum of. Everybody wants to maintain the squad together because they did so well last season.

‘But again, I don’t know the way often this happens here at Palace, keeping your top 15 to 16 players going right into a latest season once you’ve performed that well. That’s also an ideal achievement for the club but you never know what happens on this sometimes crazy transfer market.’
