Terence Crawford retired welterweight boxing legend despite there being widespread worry for him going into the fight

Over his profession, Terence Crawford has scored some incredible wins within the boxing ring, but few are higher than his win over Shawn Porter.

On September 13, Terence Crawford takes on his hardest test up to now when he clashes against Canelo Alvarez for the super middleweight title on the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

The fight is about to be one among the most important boxing fights in recent memory, not only due to each fighters’ standings in the game, but because it is going to mark TKO Boxing‘s inaugural event.

Each fighters have scored some monumental wins throughout their respective careers, but one among Crawford’s career-best performances got here when he clashed against former welterweight king, Shawn Porter.

Crawford retired Shawn Porter after pundits labeled it ‘a quantum leap in competition’

In 2020, ‘Bud’ Crawford scored an enormous win over British boxing legend Kell Brook, punching him through the ropes in a comeback win.

Not long after, Crawford was ordered to defend his title against Porter, who on the time was the number two ranked WBO welterweight contender. Often for mandated matches, there could be an 80-20 split, nonetheless, considering each fighters’ earnings from their previous three fights, a 60-40 purse split was agreed.

Porter was widely regarded as Crawford’s biggest challenge at that time in his profession, and the fight was even labeled ‘a quantum leap in competition’ by ESPN pundits.

The fight played out as a particularly closely contested bout and Porter began because the faster fighter of the 2, putting pressure on ‘Bud’ while he tried to download his data.

In round three, Porter almost dropped Crawford with an enormous right hook after a temporary clash of heads between the fighters which caused cuts on each fighters.

Going into the tenth round, Crawford was down on some scorecards after some extremely close rounds. Despite that, the champion went on to knock Porter down with over two minutes left of the round.

Porter was knocked down again shortly after and his father stepped into the corner and threw the towel in.

Although there was worry for Crawford heading into the fight due to it being an enormous step up in competition, immediately after the loss, Porter announced his retirement from the game.

“I form of expected that query due to fighting everyone, I’m, I’m prepared to retire, I used to be prepared to announce my retirement tonight, win, lose or draw. I’m, I’m announcing my retirement without delay,” Porter said in the course of the post fight press conference.
