Darren Till has claimed to still be coping with the broken hand that he suffered during his fight with Darren Stewart back in May.
On Saturday night, Till will take the most important step in his boxing journey when he faces Luke Rockhold on the AO Arena in Manchester within the principal event of Misfits Boxing 22. But he could have to fight through what’s a reasonably serious injury.
Earlier this month, the previous UFC title contender sat down with Bloody Elbow over the phone for an exclusive chat. And throughout the interview, he let slip that his hand should be broken from the Stewart fight.
Darren Till claims his hand continues to be broken from Darren Stewart fight
When Darren Till fought his namesake Darren Stewart back in May, it looked as if we could also be heading for one more early night as he scored a fast knockdown. However the Brit showed incredible resilience to fight through and even turn the fight around before a knockdown on the bell saved Till.
Nevertheless, within the technique of landing an enormous barrage of punches Till managed to injure his hand severely. And as of our interview recorded on August 12, he claimed the hand was still broken, just days away from his fight with Luke Rockhold.
“Luke can’t take what Darren could take,” he said of the quantity of punches he plans to land this time around. “I do know this because all my coaches and everybody I’ve sparred across the gym knows how hard I hit with these gloves on.
“They were all asking ‘how did that man take that?’ Boulder head. I mean, to be honest my hand continues to be broken from the fight. That claims all the pieces about what’s in that man’s head because I knock people out for fun and I couldn’t knock him out.”
Luke Rockhold believes he’ll make Darren Till quit in Misfits Boxing showdown
While Till is a known puncher and has a solid chin of his own, the idea is that if the going gets tough, he might opt to get going. He was dominating proceedings against Dricus Du Plessis at one point in his final UFC fight before eventually submitting, and Rockhold plans to placed on similar pressure within the ring.
“It’s right down to the work we put in at once and the work I’ve been putting in,” Rockhold explained to Bloody Elbow. “Darren goes around saying I’m old, I’m on steroids. I’ve been working my a– off daily.
“I’m not 30 any more, I’m 40 and meaning there’s no time to waste. I get up daily even when I went and had a pair beers with the boys and running five miles. I’m hitting the sauna, I’m going to work, going to this and that.
“I’m not going to Ibiza on stage Charlie’d out of my mind like Darren. I see you, boy.”
