After playing 103 Tests for India from 2010 to 2023, wherein he scored 7195 runs, 37-year-old Cheteshwar Pujara called time on his cricket profession on Sunday, August 24. Pujara’s retirement, nonetheless, didn’t come as a surprise because he was out of Team India for greater than a few years, and it was all the time about when Pujara would resolve to step away from the sport.
Pujara took to X on Sunday morning to verify the news of him retiring from Indian cricket.
After Pujara called time on his cricket profession, many former and present-day cricketers paid wealthy tribute to him, and on Monday, his wife, Puja Pabari, also penned a heartfelt note for him.
Within the post going viral on the web, Puja wrote that she is glad that Cheteshwar gave his all and played the sport his own calm and dignified way.
‘Be in the current as the current is the current of the supreme presence’ – a tenet of the Bhagvad Gita which is something you have got been living by for quite sometime now, and hope it continues to guide you on this next phase!
As you bid goodbye to your old flame, passion and the game you like a lot, I’m glad you usually gave it your all and played the sport in your personal calm and dignified way!
From knowing nothing about cricket to loving you and the game through your eyes – your journey has been a real education in life’s lessons for me, and I couldn’t be more grateful to have undergone the highs and lows of your profession together!
I’ll miss cheering you on the sphere, following the unshakeable routines, and at times perhaps also the anxiousness before a match/series.
For all of the missed celebrations and adjustments made so as to prioritise cricket, lets make up for it now.”
During his 15-year-long cricket profession, Pujara scored 19 centuries and 35 fifties. He finished his profession as India’s eighth leading run-getter within the five-day format of the sport. Pujara played a giant role in India’s back-to-back Test series wins in Australia in 2018-19 and 2020-21.
