Kohli had stunned fans in May 2025 when he announced his retirement from the longest format just before India’s much-anticipated five-match Test series against England.
The retirement call followed his earlier exit from T20 internationals. After lifting the 2024 T20 World Cup within the Caribbean, Kohli decided it was the right time to step other than the shortest format.
His sudden departure has left India in a transitional phase, especially with ODI cricket also taking a backseat since IPL 2025.
With Kohli now out of each T20Is and Tests, his focus has shifted to ODIs and can next be seen in motion within the three-match ODI series against Australia starting October 19.
