Chiefs’ Mike Danna Has a Special Engagement Gift in Mind for Taylor Swift

Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Mike Danna might use Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s engagement as a catalyst to return a favor to the pop star.

Danna, 27, was asked if he had considered a gift for Kelce and Swift, each 35, who announced they were engaged on Tuesday, August 26.

“I’ll consider a great little engagement gift,” Danna told reporters at Chiefs practice on Tuesday, shortly after the engagement news dropped. “It’s going to be something special for them. Possibly some Pop-Tarts back to her. It won’t be homemade.”

Swift’s homemade Pop-Tarts have turn out to be the stuff of legend, especially inside the Chiefs organization.

The singer baked a batch of them for the team’s linemen last season, which Danna remembered fondly.

“Listen, them things will get you in trouble,” he said Tuesday. “Those are dessert and people are fire. If you’ve one, best consider you’re gonna want two. Possibly three. She did Pop-Tarts for the entire position groups. The D-line was throughout those.”

Danna continued, “As soon we we discovered it was from her, we were like, ‘Yeah, we’d like about 4 more boxes of those.’”

Swift’s baking skills were so impressive that offensive lineman Chris Jones needed to get the recipe.

“You realize what, shout-out to Tay Tay,” Jones, 31, told the Kansas City Star in February. “Her Pop-Tarts are amazing.”

Jones continued, “I used to be asking Trav [because] I don’t understand how she gets the crust of the Pop-Tarts so fire. The crust tastes like biscuits, I swear to you. But, shout-out to Tay Tay, she’s an actual one.”

Danna took the rostrum before Chiefs practice on Monday, and barely had time to digest news of Kelce and Swift’s engagement.

“I just got told 30 seconds ago,” Danna told reporters. “But that’s awesome. I’m so glad for them — Trav, Taylor, that’s an exquisite time of their life. A beautiful a part of their journey. That’s a ravishing thing to see.”

Danna said he has only been around Swift “a few times,” but gushed about her future with the Chiefs superstar tight end.

“That’s an incredible thing to see,” he said. “Seeing them cool down, seeing all [those] glad smiles and glad faces between the 2.”

Kelce returned to practice on Tuesday, just hours after the engagement post dropped via Instagram.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,” read the post, which featured a carousel of photos from the proposal.

The Chiefs travel to São Paulo, Brazil, to open the regular season against the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday, September 5.
