Over eight months after announcing international retirement, legendary offspinner Ravichandran Ashwin has also drawn curtains on his IPL profession. In a post on social media, Ashwin said he’s done playing IPL but now desires to explore other “leagues” indicating he should proceed playing competitive cricket.
“Big day and hence a special starting. They are saying every ending may have a brand new start, my time as an IPL cricketer involves an in depth today, but my time as an explorer of the sport around various leagues begins today,” Ashwin wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“Would really like to thank all of the franchisees for all of the wonderful memories and relationships over time and most significantly the @IPL and the @BCCI for what they’ve given me until now. Sit up for having fun with and profiting from what’s ahead of me,” he added.
Chepauk’s own. 🦁The carrom-ball thiruppura-sundaran! ✨Out of your first run-ups in Yellove on the dusty tracks of Anbuden to absolute spin domination on this planet’s grandest arenas, you’ve given us every little thing. 💛
You’ve pillared our legacy and made Fortress Chepauk roar like…

Well done in your wonderful profession. Good luck for the long run buddy.— Irfan Pathan (@IrfanPathan) August 27, 2025
Our memory often cheats us into undermining someone’s capabilities. @ashwinravi99 bhai was the foremost experimenter in IPL bowling, redefining the principles when people said the format wasn’t suited to off spin bowling. A legend, and a ruthless winner, you’ll be missed #Ashwin https://t.co/nzoB9AQyce— Priyank Panchal (@PKpanchal09) August 27, 2025
