Prince Harry is returning to the U.K. on the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death for a cause that’s near home.
“Prince Harry can be celebrating 20 years of the WellChild Awards in London,” the national charity shared in a press release via X on Thursday, August 28. “The event, in association with @GSK, honors the inspirational achievements of seriously sick children and the individuals who take care of them.”
The Duke of Sussex, 40, shared a press release of his own, posted via the WellChild social media accounts.
“I’m all the time privileged to attend the WellChild Awards and meet the incredible children, families and professionals who encourage us all with their strength and spirit,” he said. “For 20 years these Awards have highlighted the courage of young people living with complex health needs and shone a lightweight on the devoted caregivers who support them every step of the way in which.”

Harry has been a patron of WellChild for 17 years and attends the charity’s awards ceremony annually. This 12 months’s event is ready to happen on Monday, September 8, and can feature a speech from Harry throughout the ceremony. (Elizabeth died on September 8, 2022, at age 96.)
Next month’s trip marks the primary time Harry can be traveling across the pond since losing his appeal for government-funded security in April. Harry has been fighting to reinstate protection within the U.K. since he and wife Meghan Markle stepped away from their duties throughout the royal family in 2020. The couple’s security measures have been selected a case-by-case basis following their departure.
Days after the legal loss, Harry publicly reignited the feud between him and his family by sitting down for a bombshell interview with the BBC. The duke alleged his father, King Charles III, played a component within the lack of his appeal.
“There may be quite a lot of control and skill in my father’s hands,” he said on the time. “Ultimately, this whole thing might be resolved through him. Not necessarily by intervening, but by stepping aside, allowing the experts [to] do what’s essential.”
Harry also issued a plea to his family with hopes to fix their relationship, claiming that Charles “now not speaks to me.” (It has been widely reported that the father-son duo could possibly reunite during Harry’s upcoming U.K. trip.)
“I’d love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore,” he said, referring to Charles’ cancer diagnosis. “Life is precious. I don’t understand how for much longer my father has.”
