US Open fans were outraged over Russian tennis star’s ‘obscene’ act during fiery win

Daniil Medvedev has a fame for being sent into meltdown on the court and US Open fans have witnessed it first hand.

On Sunday, Medvedev had a complete head loss after losing his first-round match at Louis Armstrong Stadium to Benjamin Bonzi.

He smashed his racket multiple times on the bottom following his defeat in what was a controversial clash.

A moment that included a photographer entering the court on the mistaken time began a furious rage from the Russian.

Medvedev incited the gang who booed the umpire for allowing Bonzi to re-take his first serve attributable to the interference.

After a protracted delay play continued, but he would go on to lose after which take his anger out on his equipment.

The US Open fans gave the impression to be on Medvedev’s side this 12 months, but that definitely wasn’t the case in 2019…

Six years ago, the Russian was involved in additional controversy in Latest York which led to backlash from fans.

During a third-round meeting with Feliciano Lopez, Medvedev erupted after a call went against him.

With the rating locked at 5-5 within the opening set, he ripped a towel out of a ball boy’s hands and threw it on the bottom.

The gang immediately responded with boos and groans before Medvedev then lobbed his racket the bottom.

He went on to received a code violation from the umpire, before angrily ranting at him whilst appealing the choice.

Medvedev then lost the fans completely, as he sneakily held up his middle finger towards the stands.

A replay of the rude gesture he made whilst walking back onto the court was shown on the courtside screen.

And that led to the fans booing him again loudly, whilst he managed to avoid any further punishment for his actions.

Tennis fans online were also left outraged at Medvedev’s actions, with one writing on X: “Don’t care whether it is the umpire’s live sight or video replay within the stadium, you will have to call a code violation on a player for an obscene gesture.”

One other said: “What’s Medvedev’s problem?? It’s like he desires to get defaulted. Crowd has come alive and fully behind Lopez’s due to Medvedev’s antics.”

“Hope feli beats this kid! Disgusting behavior from Medvedev,” a 3rd fan posted after the incident.

Sarcastic statement

Medvedev went on to beat Lopez 7-6, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 to achieve the fourth round of the US Open in 2019.

After securing his win, he was still being booed by the gang, and he sent them a sarcastic during his on-court interview.

“Thanks all guys, because your energy tonight gave me the win,” Medvedev said towards the fans.

“Because when you weren’t here guys, I’d probably lose the match because I used to be so drained.

“I used to be cramping yesterday. It was so tough for me to play. So I would like all of you to know that whenever you sleep tonight, I won due to you.

“The energy you’re giving me immediately guys, I feel it should be enough for my next five matches.

“The more you do that, the more I’ll win. On your guys. Thanks!”

Medvedev did in actual fact go on to win three more matches on the US Open six years ago, reaching the ultimate.

He knocked out Dominik Koepfer, Stan Wawrinka and Grigor Dimitrov on his solution to establishing a clash with Rafael Nadal.

Nadal would beat him 7-5, 6-3, 5-7, 4-6, 6-4 in a five-set thriller to disclaim him his first profession Grand Slam title.

Medvedev eventually went on to win the US Open in 2021 to say what remains to be his only major title.

Unfortunately for him, this 12 months his latest rage in Latest York hasn’t led to a different final appearance after a primary round elimination.
