George and Amal Clooney Enjoy Date Night at Venice Film Festival

George Clooney returned to the Venice Film Festival with wife Amal Clooney by his side after skipping several events as a result of illness.

The glamorous couple stepped out together for the world premiere of George’s latest film, Jay Kelly, on Thursday, August 28 in Italy.

Amal, 47, turned heads in a vintage 1995 Jean-Louis Scherre fuchsia minidress which featured a floor-length train. The human rights lawyer posed arm-in-arm with George, 64, who looked suave for the date night in a dapper black suit teamed with an identical bow tie.

The pair placed on a loved-up display on the red carpet, cozying up to 1 one other for photos. At one point, George was photographed kissing Amal’s hand.

The outing comes after George was forced to bail on several earlier Venice Film Festival work obligations after being too sick to attend.

“Unfortunately, George has a sinus infection and, under doctor’s orders, he has needed to cut back his activities today,” a representative told People on Wednesday, August 27, confirming why the actor skipped the day’s events.

Prior to the Jay Kelly premiere, George didn’t attend a press conference for the movie held earlier on Thursday.

“As chances are you’ll know, George Clooney will not be going to be here because he has a foul sinus infection,” the moderator said. “We actually hope, and I believe he needs to be on the red carpet tonight. But he may be very sorry he can’t be with us.”

Director Noah Baumbach joked, “Even movie stars get sick.”

George and Amal’s relationship appears to be going from strength to strength after the pair first met on the Ocean Eleven star’s Lake Como home in July 2013. After falling in love, they married in 2014 and welcomed twins Alexander and Ella in 2017.

The E.R. alum has often credited finding love with Amal later in life as the rationale they get along so well nearly all of the time and don’t argue.

“There’s a thing about finding the person who you needed to search out, particularly at a certain age, and every part from then on is straightforward,” he told The Recent York Times in February.

“We renovated our house,” Clooney continued. “Amal would go, ‘I need to color this wall yellow.’ Well, if I used to be 27 years old and doing construction work, I’d’ve been like, ‘Well, that’s a silly color.’ But the reality of the matter is that at 60, you only go, ‘OK.’ There are such a lot of things that might have caused friction that don’t.”

Echoing an identical sentiment during an appearance on CBS Mornings in April, George insisted that he and Amal “never had an argument. We still haven’t. We’re trying to search out something to fight about.”

Meanwhile, Amal has also publicly praised her husband including during an interview with Glamour published in July.

“I actually have a partner in life who’s so supportive of what I do. So I don’t feel like I actually have to apologize for it or rein it in,” Amal told the outlet.

She continued: “I feel so incredibly lucky to share day-after-day with him, and now we’re 4. I don’t take any of it without any consideration. I treasure the laughter and the enjoyment that I get from just being with them.”
