Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been sacked by Besiktas after the club didn’t qualify for the Europa Conference League.
Turkish giants Besiktas were beaten 2-1 on aggregate by Swiss side Lausanne-Sport of their Europa Conference League play-off tie.
The primary leg in Switzerland ended 1-1 but Besiktas were unable to make home advantage count as Solskjaer’s side lost 1-0 on the Tupras Stadium.
Arsenal academy graudate Nathan Butler-Oyedeji fired Lausanne-Sport in front and Besiktas were unable to reply after Felix Uduokhai was sent off.
Boos rang out as Besiktas’ European aspirations were prematurely ended, with several home players collapsing to the ground in disappointment.

The club quickly made the choice to sack Solskjaer, saying in an announcement: ‘Our contract with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been terminated following a choice made on the board meeting.
‘Following the meeting, our chairman, Serdal Adalı, thanked Solskjaer for his services up to now. We respectfully present this for the general public’s information.’

Solskjaer was appointed as the brand new head coach of Besiktas in January on an 18-month deal.
It was his first managerial position since being sacked by Manchester United in 2021.
Besiktas were sixth within the table when Solskjaer took over and the Norway legend helped the club climb to fourth by the tip of the season.
Solskjaer led Besiktas to a 2-1 win over Eyupspor of their first league game of the 2025-26 season but lost his job after the Europa Conference League exit.
Besiktas had already been knocked out of Europa League qualifiers by Shakhtar Donetsk, losing 6-2 across two legs.
They return to league motion on Sunday against Alanyaspor but Besiktas are yet to substantiate who will likely be in command of the team.
Nuri Sahin, the ex-Borussia Dortmund player and manager, has been linked with the job.
