The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) President Rohan Jaitley has commended the proliferation of T20 leagues across the nation, emphasising that these tournaments aren’t competitors but invaluable platforms for locating and nurturing latest talent.
Jaitley has asserted that such initiatives enhance India’s cricketing ecosystem and contribute to the general growth of the game.
“State leagues will not be competitors; they’re feeders to their very own ecosystems. Each state has its own talent pool and structure. More leagues mean more opportunities for players, which is helpful for Indian cricket overall.”
Discussing the second edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL), Jaitley noted that the competition has seen improvements in scale, organisation and quality in comparison with its inaugural season.
Jaitley emphasised that the league hasn’t only enhanced on-field performances but has made significant progress in strengthening the ecosystem for each men’s and ladies’s cricket within the capital as well.
“As an administrator, you usually aim to enhance from the previous season—higher organisation, preparation and execution. I’m pleased to say this 12 months the league is more structured and skilled,” Jaitley said.
“Teams are higher prepared, management is sharper and the general ecosystem has grown stronger. Records won’t be broken every season, you would possibly not see six sixes in an over yearly, but what matters is the consistency and scale of the competition,” Jaitley added.
“There isn’t a downside, players are fitter, more committed and higher prepared. They’ve been in game mode for weeks, with fitness camps and matches keeping them at their peak ahead of the domestic season,” he added.
Two latest teams were added to the roster in DPL this season. The President praised the brand new team owners for his or her skilled approach, highlighting that they’ve seamlessly integrated into the league’s ecosystem and brought fresh energy to the tournament.
“The brand new team owners have integrated thoroughly into the ecosystem. They’ve been skilled of their approach, and the present teams have been supportive. It’s encouraging to see more players getting opportunities, which strengthens the league,” he further said.
Regarding the DPL’s live broadcast, he stated, “Having the league on Star Sports is a major differentiator. While many tournaments are limited to digital platforms, television provides unmatched reach and visibility, adding immense value for each players and fans.”
