Liverpool striker Alexander Isak says Sweden are in a ‘crisis situation’ after the ’embarrassing’ defeat to Kosovo has left their hopes of World Cup qualification in major doubt.

Sweden suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Kosovo on Monday night which leaves them bottom of Group B with only one point from 4 games.

Jon Dahl Tomasson is now facing calls to resign as Sweden’s head coach as they now need Kosovo to lose each of their remaining games to face any likelihood of securing a spot within the World Cup qualifying play-offs.

‘It’s too rattling bad. Embarrassing. Disillusioned once more,’ Isak said after Sweden’s latest defeat.

‘We’re playing too badly. The best way we’re playing doesn’t work. We’re doing it too badly individually too. So it’s a mixture of every part really.

‘We’re so rattling dissatisfied as players. And as I’ve said before, we take quite a lot of responsibility ourselves. We have a look at ourselves within the mirror. And nobody is approved. Not us players, not us as a team. And that after all includes the coach and every part around.

‘It’s a little bit of a crisis situation and that’s clear. I don’t know what we’re going to do. However it’s all too bad.’

Asked to elaborate on describing Sweden’s situation as ’embarrassing’, Isak replied: ‘No, but just basically. The position we’re in with one point.

‘I feel, with all due respect to Kosovo, that they’re playing thoroughly. Partly because we’re doing them well. They’re perhaps higher than you’re thinking that, but I still think that we must always have the opportunity to do higher with the players we now have.’

Meanwhile, Newcastle United winger Anthony Elanga also apologised for Sweden’s defeat.

‘We just wish to ask for forgiveness to the Swedish individuals who got here and supported us,’ Elanga said.

‘Thanks for the support, but sorry that we lost. Without delay it’s hard to explain what we feel.’
