Ruben Amorim has been accused of ‘talking absolute nonsense’ with ‘ridiculous’ comments on criticism within the media, by former Arsenal and Chelsea star Emmanuel Petit.

The Manchester United manager has had a torrid time since taking the job last November, struggling for decent performances and results.

Pundits and commentators have criticised him and his team attributable to their consistently underwhelming displays under his management.

Earlier this month Amorim snapped back at his critics, suggesting his players are struggling to perform because they’re being negatively impacted by the media.

Speaking in a press conference before a 2-0 win over Sunderland last day out, Amorim said: ‘I understand when people think “what would this team be like in a distinct system?” Possibly this team would win more games. But when we don’t change certain things, we should not going to win titles, even when we alter to 4-3-3 or 4-4-2.

‘That’s my point with the players. I don’t want to alter your mind, but my players, I guarantee you, they’re listening to all of the opinions they usually are putting that inside because we should not winning games. They should imagine in me. So my biggest problem is that my players imagine in you guys while you say the issue with our team is the system.

‘I get crazy about that, because we’d like to play the identical way, with the identical power, with the identical intensity, with the identical focus. If you happen to try this, it doesn’t matter in regards to the system.

‘There is no such thing as a one on the earth who can read all the pieces and hearken to all the pieces about individuals who understand football and never be influenced by that.

‘So I attempt to listen and to see all of the games because I do know that I see the sport more times than all those guys [pundits] together, because they should see all of the games within the Premier League and provides an opinion.

‘My opinion is totally different because I see the games, I see training, I understand my players, I understand what I’m doing and I follow my job this fashion since it’s inconceivable to survive on this club, listening to all of the things.’

Petit slams Amorim comments

‘Talking to Boyle Sports, who offer the most recent football betting odds, Petit said: ‘That’s the primary time I’ve heard a manager use that as an excuse for the failure of his players. Don’t be ridiculous. Ruben Amorim is talking absolute nonsense. Your players know what you’re saying is absolute nonsense too.

‘How are you going to say that while you manage for Manchester United? If you happen to should not in a position to cope with critics while you manage or play for giant clubs and are receiving a lot money, then change clubs. Don’t work with top clubs.

‘I read that and thought, “Did he seriously say that?” I’ve been a player for top clubs with huge expectations. Once I was on the pitch, I never tried to seek out excuses.

‘You only take your individual responsibility, be a person. I do know I’ve been very upset with critics, a few of what they said was unfair more often than not, but you’ve to cope with it.

‘The fantastic thing about football is that you’ve your individual destiny in your hands, which implies you possibly can be on the ground after one game after which be the hero of the subsequent. You may change that situation. You’ve the facility to alter it, so just do it.

‘Stop specializing in what persons are saying in videos from players on social media. Each player and the manager, all together, should try to alter the situation, the environment.’

The Frenchman prolonged his criticism to others at Old Trafford, saying: ‘There are such a lot of people at Manchester United who’re missing the character and personality to alter it. Truthfully, guys, in the event you can’t try this, just be honest with yourself within the mirror.

‘Say, “I’m not in a position to try this because I’m scared.” That is it. So be honest and alter.’

‘I’ve not got lots of time for that,’ the previous Manchester United defender said on the Gary Neville podcast. ‘If pundits are getting in your head you shouldn’t be playing for the club, easy as that.

‘Do people not remember Alan Hansen criticising us as young kids, saying “you possibly can’t win anything with kids?” That was the best centre back in that moment, probably the most successful centre back of all time at that moment talking of us as if we were inferior and nowhere near ok. Do they not think we got criticised during our football careers?

‘I’m sorry, you’re playing for Manchester United, it comes with the territory. You’ve got to step up.’

He added: ‘I never blamed anyone else after we lost football matches. I played in a dressing room whereby while you lost football matches you got here in and said, “sorry about that today lads, I used to be a large number for that goal”, there was accountability.

‘Why would you blame other people while you’re losing matches? That’s a fairly large problem in itself.

‘I’ve not got any time [for the suggestion pundits influence players]. Excuse mentality, shortcuts, blaming other people, it’s the worst thing you possibly can try this in life.

‘They should think about doing their job and doing it well and win football matches. That’s the one thing that’s going to shut people up and that’s winning football matches they usually’ve not won anywhere near enough football matches.’
