Ruben Amorim says it’s too soon for Senne Lammens to be in comparison with Manchester United’s legendary former goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel.
Lammens produced a high-quality performance on his debut for the Red Devils as United secured a 2-0 Premier League win over Sunderland at Old Trafford.
United signed Lammens from Belgian club Royal Antwerp on deadline day in the summertime transfer window as a alternative for Andre Onana.
It was reported that United paid €21m (£18.1m) plus add-ons for the young goalkeeper, with the 23-year-old signing a five-year contract on the club.
In Amorim’s pre-match press conference on Friday, ahead of United’s trip to Liverpool on Sunday, one reporter asked the United head coach: ‘When your goalkeeper puts in a performance like that… Fans are calling Lammens the brand new Schmeichel. Does that make him inconceivable to drop?’

Amorim said: ‘Nothing is inconceivable. You may have to prove it throughout the week [in training].
‘In fact, he did an excellent job. It is feasible he’s going to begin [against Liverpool]. The primary impression on this club is basically necessary but to take care of it’s much more. He isn’t Schmeichel yet.

‘He’s a young guy with talent and he showed quite a lot of composure – the fans liked it. But that’s now up to now, we want to indicate it in the following game.’
Schmeichel played 398 games for United from 1991 to 1999, famously helping the Red Devils win a treble under Sir Alex Ferguson as United won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in the identical season.
United won a complete of 5 Premier League titles during Schmeichel’s time on the club and three FA Cups.

Man Utd injury news ahead of Liverpool clash
Ahead of the clash against Liverpool, Amorim has provided an injury update on various his players.
‘Licha (Lisandro Martinez) isn’t available,’ Amorim added. ‘He’s near but he’s just returning to training with the team.
‘Noussair Mazraoui, I don’t know [yet]. The remaining of the blokes, the national players are ready but should you saw the games, a few of the players played in Japan so we must be careful to offer more time.
‘Bruno [Fernandes] played 62 minutes so we give him yet one more day. We attempt to balance every thing to get everyone ready but the blokes who’re getting back from national teams are able to play.’
Quizzed about facing Liverpool, Amorim continued: ‘Sometimes things change really fast but should you see the history of each clubs, you may feel that sometimes you may have one club that’s winning, winning, winning and one club that’s having a nasty moment.
‘That happened with Liverpool when Manchester United was winning every thing and that happened with Manchester United when Liverpool was winning every thing. We have now to acknowledge that and be really honest with the fans.
‘We are able to win any game, if we take into consideration winning the following game, that’s crucial thing, we will win the following game. If we’re to be the identical level as Liverpool in the long run, that’s the concept, I don’t know the way long it’s going to take.’
