Vianello Targets Joshua For Colosseum Clash In Rome

Guido Vianello has volunteered to face Anthony Joshua for his December tune-up fight. The 2016 Olympian Vianello (14-3-1, 12 KOs) says it’s his “dream” to fight Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) in Rome within the Colosseum.

The 6’6″ Guido states that Joshua vs. Arslanbek Makhmudov can be too “easy fight” for him, as he’s already knocked out the Russian fighter within the eighth round on August 17, 2024.

A Dream Born in Rome

“My dream is a giant fight within the Colosseum in Rome. You’ll be able to do it with a giant star like Anthony Joshua. So, it could be a dream to fight with him in Rome,” said Guido Vianello to Pro Boxing Fans, calling out Anthony Joshua.

“Joshua deserves a superb opponent to come back back after the KO. I do know that Makhmudov wants it [AJ fight], too, but I beat him. They’re talking a couple of fight between Joshua and Makhmudov. Joshua is a champion and a warrior. With Makhmudov, it’s a simple fight for him,” said Vianello.

Eddie’s Approval Needed

Guido states that he told Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn about his interest in fighting Joshua, and he told him he likes the thought. Vianello says he also spoke to his promoters at Top Rank, they usually’re interested by the fight as well.

Hearn may very well be the stumbling block for the fight happening. He obviously knows how tough Vianello is from watching his last 4 performances against these fighters:

  • Alexis Barriere
  • Richard Torrez Jr.
  • Arslanbek Makhmudov
  • Efe Ajagba

A Dangerous Option for AJ

Vianello knocked out Barriere and Makhmudov. Those 4 fights showed that Vianello relentlessly attacks his opponents and has respectable power. He makes up for what he lacks in strength by the way in which he pressures his opponents. Joshua can be vulnerable against a fighter like that, especially now along with his punch resistance showing signs of degradation.

Vianello says he can fight as early as December. He desires to rest from his long training camp after his recent victory over Alexis Barriere on October eleventh.
