South Africa dominated Pakistan by 150 runs in a rain-affected round-robin league match, propelling them to the highest of the points table within the Women’s World Cup on Tuesday.

South Africa now has 10 points from six games and, a minimum of for a day, will probably be above Australia and England, who each have 9 points and are set to face one another on Wednesday in Indore.

Wolvaardt struck 90 off 82 balls with 10 fours and two sixes, and added 118 runs in only over 15 overs for the second wicket with Sune Luus (61 off 59 balls), who also hit eight fours and two sixes.

After Luus’s dismissal, Kapp, who contributed 68, added 60 runs for the fourth wicket with Wolvaardt, showcasing strokes throughout the park.

The typically regular skipper Fatima Sana conceded 69 runs in eight overs, with eight fours and three sixes hit off her bowling. Spinner Sadia Iqbal was hit for 4 sixes and 7 fours, while veteran Diana Baig gave away 49 runs in her five overs.

Nadine de Klerk, a revelation as a finisher within the tournament, provided the ultimate impetus together with her 16-ball 41.

De Klerk hit three fours and 4 sixes, three of which were particularly notable. One off left-arm spinner Iqbal was hit over long-off, while Fatima was punished down the bottom and over mid-wicket.

Kapp, on her part, smashed a half-tracker from Sadia Iqbal over the mid-wicket fence and likewise hit Fatima over square leg, turning the top of the innings right into a run-fest for the Proteas women.
