Inter Milan goalkeeper Josep Martinez was involved in a automotive accident which left an 81-year-old man dead, based on reports in Italy.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning in Fenegro because the Spaniard was driving to training shortly before 10am.
Reports suggest that the elderly man’s motorised wheelchair veered into the trail of Martinez’s automotive, possibly attributable to him suffering a medical emergency.
The goalkeeper reportedly attempted to manage first aid and an ambulance and other emergency services arrived however the man was confirmed dead on the scene.
Martinez was not harmed physically within the incident but is reportedly badly shaken.
The Carabinieri – Italian police – are investigating the incident, with the footballer cooperating with those investigations.
Inter Milan manager Christian Chivu was attributable to hold a press conference at 2pm today ahead of a Serie A game against Fiorentina, but that has been cancelled.

Martinez is a Spain international who’s second-choice goalkeeper at Inter behind Yann Sommer.
He has previously played for Las Palmas, RB Leipzig and Genoa, after spending time within the youth system at Barcelona.
The stopper won his one and only Spain cap in 2021 against Lithuania.
