Michael Bisping on where Tom Aspinall and team went incorrect on UFC 321 fight week which could possibly be detrimental

After a disastrous end to his first undisputed title defense at UFC 321, Tom Aspinall has been told he made several fight week mistakes.

After 15 months out of motion waiting for the return of Jon Jones, Tom Aspinall made his return at UFC 321 this past Saturday against Ciryl Gane in his first official title defense.

The fight resulted in disaster after the challenger landed a brutal double eye poke on Aspinall, rendering him unable to proceed meaning the fight was declared a no contest.

Ultimately, the primary event topped off what’s every week to forget for Aspinall, who has fortunately held onto his title and can likely be booked for a direct rematch against the Frenchman.

Michael Bisping highlights mistakes made by team Aspinall during fight week

The heavyweight champion provided a temporary injury update only a day faraway from the primary event, stating that no long run damage has been done to his eye.

Throughout the UFC 321 fight week, there have been several instances where Aspinall was questioned not only by the fanbase, but some former professionals in the game.

Midway through fight week, a non-public conversation the champion was having with Daniel Cormier was posted to his YouTube channel, which caused controversy due to what Cormier was saying.

The UFC commentator has since come out and explained that he’s ‘upset’ with Aspinall for posting their private conversation.

In addition to that, also during fight week, Aspinall’s father said during an interview that he hopes the champion doesn’t sign a brand new contract with the UFC, and as a substitute wants him to transition to boxing, which again raised eyebrows.

And now a couple of days faraway from UFC 321 fight week, fellow Brit Michael Bisping has claimed that Aspinall’s mistakes during fight week could possibly be detrimental.

“I do know he dipped on a couple of interviews, a couple of interview obligations so people were grumbling about that,” Bisping said on his podcast.

“Then there was the entire thing with DC… Whispering into the microphone, he didn’t must release that, so he type of dropped the ball just a little bit there. After which his dad was talking concerning the boxing thing, like ‘After this contract we’re leaving’.

“I used to be like, ‘What are you doing?’ you don’t negotiate like that in public, you speak to them man to man, I mean if that’s what you wanna do, great, but for those who had of lost on Saturday night, good luck getting one other title fight.

“There have been a couple of things that were ruffling a couple of feathers,” Bisping continued.

Is Dana White now indignant with Tom Aspinall?

Bisping isn’t the just one who picked up on Aspinall’s fight week potentially being detrimental to his future within the promotion.

In line with fans, UFC boss Dana White was furious with Aspinall for not continuing to fight, after a comment he made on the post-fight press conference.

Ultimately, if history has taught us anything, the 32-year-old’s experience within the UFC from here on out can be quite different to what it once was.
