In what might come as an enormous relief to countless Indian cricket fans, star batter Shreyas Iyer underwent surgery after suffering a laceration to his spleen and has recovered since, in accordance with a report in Cricbuzz. He stays stable and is out of the Intensive Care Unit of the Sydney hospital, where he’s admitted.
In response to the report, Iyer needed surgery for the spleen injury sustained while taking a catch in the course of the third and final ODI against Australia on the Sydney Cricket Ground last week.
While diving forward to finish the catch on the run, Iyer landed in a bizarre manner, leading to a ruptured spleen that needed immediate surgery.
Although the surgery was minor, Iyer might want to rest for no less than five days, as much as every week. The BCCI and the Indian team management in Australia, who had assigned him a physician, are monitoring his condition through Dr Rizwan Khan, the Indian team physician.
The report also indicates that the BCCI is arranging travel for a member of the family of Iyer to affix him in Sydney.
As of Tuesday, the star Indian batter has been taking phone calls, having home-cooked meals provided by local friends and handling his every day chores. India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav shared an update on his condition as well.
“We spoke to him no less than on the primary day once we got to know that he had an injury. I called him first. Then I discovered that he didn’t have a phone. So I called the physio, Kamlesh,” Suryakumar said while speaking on the pre-match press conference.
“He told me that he (Iyer) is stable. On the primary day, I don’t understand how, but he was looking good. We now have been talking for 2 days now. He has been replying. If he’s replying on the phone, it means he’s stable,” Suryakumar added.
