On the stroke of midnight, Harmanpreet created her own legacy, broke a barrier with a gaggle of spirited women full of courage, and announced that this isn’t the tip but only the start.

The Indian women’s cricket team won its first-ever World Cup with a 52-run victory over South Africa within the summit clash on Sunday, scripting a golden chapter within the country’s sporting achievements.

After taking the epochal World Cup-winning catch, the mercurial Indian women’s team skipper displayed a variety of emotions never seen before.

She ran wildly as if there was no tomorrow after taking the catch, stood a bit detached as the children celebrated, attempting to soak within the moment.

She touched “Guruji” Amol Muzumdar’s feet and engaged in an emotional hug, with tears bursting from her eyes.

She called the 2 OGs of Indian women’s cricket — Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami — to carry the Cup. Each legends broke down.

It was a moment to border when the skipper and her deputy Smriti Mandhana, engaged in a bear hug with Jhulan, telling her, “Didi, Yeh Aapke liye thaa (Sister, that is for you).”

She also credited each member of the Indian contingent who made the historic achievement possible.

“I’m just so grateful for this crowd. They’ve been amazing. Thanks, everyone, for supporting us through all of the ups and downs. And a special because of my dad – I almost forgot him – our selectors, and everybody back home. Thanks a lot. Even after those three losses, we all the time had that belief. We spoke about it after the last game – we knew this team had something special to show things around. Credit to each member. They stayed positive, focused, and gave all the pieces day and night. This team truly deserves to be here,” Harmanpreet said.
