EXCLUSIVE: Paridhi Sharma Compares TV And Bollywood Ahead Of Debut In Emraan Hashmi, Yami Gautam’s HAQ

Paridhi Sharma On Pay Parity Between TV, Bollywood

When asked in regards to the transition from TV to Bollywood and if there have been any differences in pay or casting behaviour, Paridhi Sharma said, “Mujhe toh aisa lagta hai ki aap yeh joh segregation banaya hua hai, TV, theatre, movie ka par aapko woh lenge hi nahi agar aap deserve nahi karte woh role. Obviously, I auditioned for the role, I got chosen, the director loved my performance, and that’s the rationale they gave me the role. Toh mere zehan mein yeh tha hi nahi ki principal kahin se deserve kar rahi thi isliye wahan pe thi.”

Paridhi On Dealing With TV Actor Tag

Speaking of how one deals with the tag of being a TV actor within the industry, the actress said, “Haan, I believe yeh fact toh hai. Humne segregate karke rakha hai, hierarchy bana ke rakhi hai bade-chhote ki, which is a tragic scenario. But mujhe lagta hai thoda sa focus craft pe bhi hona chahiye, kyunki har medium ke alag parameters aur demands hoti hain when it comes to performance. So when I made a decision to broaden my horizon and desired to try different mediums, maine bhi thoda break liya almost 3 and a half years ka. I kept working on my craft, maine bahut saare workshops kiye, Atul Mongia ka workshop kiya, unke saath ek short film bhi ki joh unhone direct ki thi. Kaafi saara craft pe kaam karne ke baad mujhe woh tuning aur samajh aayi, kyunki competition bahut tough hai.”

She added, “I completely agree with that. Aur do cheezein karna bahut zaroori hai television se yahan transition ke liye. You actually need to be assured in your craft, jismein bahut mehnat lagti hai; aur dusra, jazba to start out from scratch. Kyunki television mein itna kaam karne ke baad, protagonist role play karne ke baad, aapko phir se A, B, C, D steps chadhna padta hai. Aur kai log woh kar nahi paate, kyunki aapko apna vanity drop karna padta hai, apna ego bhi poori tarah se side rakhna padta hai.”

Continuing, she said, “Scratch se shuru karna padhta hai. You have to be open to meeting so many casting directors, open to going to Aram Nagar, keep visiting people and continue learning the craft. Student ki tarah floor pe baith ke fir se seekhna A, B, C, D. Achha ab ye organic, naturalistic acting kya hoti hai? Kya iska rhythm hai? Yeh sab samajhna padta hai. It’s a time-taking process, and in a completely competitive environment.”

Paridhi Compares TV And Bollywood

When asked in regards to the difference between acting on TV and the massive screen, Paridhi answered, “Dekhiye, mota-mota kaam toh similar hi hota hai, ek unit hoti hai, woh sab same hota hai. But when it comes to approach towards acting, it’s barely different. Theatre mein ek alag style hoti hai — wahan projection hota hai because you’ve gotten to succeed in out to the audience. So you’ve gotten to bring that projection into your acting.”

The actress continued, “Television acting is more emotion-driven, thoda emotion-based hoti hai. But jab hum film ya OTT ki baat karte hain, wahan emotion output ka matter hota hai. You need to think more on the actions, and be very truthful, very subtle actually. Woh pattern break karna mere liye sabse difficult tha, kyunki jab maine workshops start kiye, toh mere mentor ne kaha, ‘Thoda zyada ho raha hai, usko settle kaise karna hai.’”

Paridhi On Acting Training

Concluding, she said, “Aur woh itni aasani se aata nahi. Kyunki you’ve gotten been trained and experienced in doing a certain sort of acting for years. Then, to unlearn that process is sort of difficult. Aur jab Atul Mongia ne kaha, ‘You performed so organically,’ that boosted my confidence to a different level. Maine kaha, okay, since 3 years I used to be trying to succeed in here and ab mujhe samajh aaya. Atul Mongia, joh acting coach hain, unhone Alia Bhatt se leke Ranveer Singh tak kitne A-listers ko train kiya hai. And he loved my performance. Jab unhone bola that he desired to make a brief film with me, we eventually did it — it’s available on YouTube. Woh pattern break karne mein mujhe bahut time laga, but once I broke that, I understood the trick — ki yahan ka performance kaise karna hai, aur kis purpose ke saath karna hai.”

Paridhi Sharma can be next seen in Haq, starring Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi.
