The Pakistan Cricket Board has removed Muhammad Wasim as the top coach of the national women’s team following their disappointing performance within the recent ICC Women’s World Cup.
Despite qualifying for the event in April by topping the qualifiers held in Lahore, Pakistan finished last within the eight-team tournament co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
All of Pakistan’s matches were played in Colombo.
The team, captained by Fatima Sana, lost 4 matches while three games were abandoned because of rain.
Pakistan concluded their campaign without securing a single win, amassing just three points from seven matches, all because of washouts. Conversely, Sri Lanka finished their campaign with five points from seven games, achieving just one victory.
The PCB stated that Wasim’s contract ended with the World Cup, and the board decided not to increase it. A brand new head coach can be appointed as an alternative.
Wasim, a former Test player who has also served as chief selector of the boys’s teams, was appointed head coach last 12 months.
During his tenure, the Pakistan team lost within the Asia Cup semifinals and was eliminated within the league stages of the T20 World Cup earlier this 12 months.
A reliable source mentioned that the PCB is considering a foreign coach but may appoint former women’s team captain Bismah Maroof if an acceptable candidate isn’t found.
The source also noted that the remaining of the support staff can be modified in a couple of days.
