Five-time champions Mumbai Indians have now knocked on the Kolkata Knight Riders to get back their former team member Mayank Markande, with the conversations in the ultimate stages, in response to a report in The Times of India.
If all goes in response to plan, the trade might be finalised soon, marking Markande’s return to the team where he began his IPL journey seven years ago.
It stays unclear whether one other cricketer is a component of the deal, with insiders suggesting it might be an all-cash transaction. KKR had acquired Markande for Rs 30 lakh on the 2025 mega auction, but didn’t feature him in a single match throughout the season.
MI have already got two wrist-spinners, Vignesh Puthur and Karn Sharma and Markande’s addition will further strengthen their spin options. He enjoyed a standout debut season with MI, taking 15 wickets in 14 games and earned his India call-up lower than a 12 months after his IPL breakthrough.
Markande featured in only one T20I for India before his profession momentum dipped, limiting his probabilities within the IPL. Over the subsequent five years, despite stints with two different teams, he managed to play only 23 games.
Markande is currently playing the Ranji Trophy and has picked three wickets in as many matches, at a powerful economy of two.96. He has also scored 73 runs.
As per the report, there was, or still is, some interest in Rahul Chahar as well, though it stays unclear whether those discussions progressed into any formal talks with the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The SRH management was unconvinced with Chahar’s performance last season, in response to the report, giving him just one match despite signing him for Rs 3.2 crore on the mega auction.
During intra-squad games, the management found Chahar’s form below expectations and selected to maintain him on the bench for many of the season.
Mumbai’s interest in Chahar is again not a surprise, as he too had a successful stint with the team.
