Jasprit Bumrah is leading India’s fast bowling attack in the continued first Test against South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Within the morning session of Day 1’s play, the 31-year-old pacer from Ahmedabad bowled seven overs and picked up two wickets for nine runs. On the sixth ball of his seventh over, he also trapped South Africa captain Temba Bavuma in front of the wickets but was declared not out by the on-field umpire.
After his appeal was rejected by the umpire, Bumrah discussed taking DRS along with his teammates, and through a chat with wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, he referred South African captain as ‘bauna’ (dwarf).
The clip of Bumrah’s comment for Bavuma went viral on the web. But Bumrah’s comments for Bavuma aren’t taking place well with some fans on social media platforms.
They’re criticising Bumrah for his response, and a few even asked him to apologise.
Most Shameful and Unlikeable Team of Cricket-India. Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant ought to be immediately banned and India should apologise to Temba Bavuma. Shame on Commentators as well for not pointing it outpic.twitter.com/XYPSUOd8Ks— Aryan Goel (@Aryan42832Goel) November 14, 2025
There are specific limits that must not be crossed by sportsmen. Regardless of how pumped up you might be, under the guise of getting the competitive juice flowing, you will need to not disrespect other sportsmen on the sector. It’s not good.— Bishontherockz (@BishOnTheRockx) November 14, 2025
Body shaming is deeply instilled in our roots! It’s not cool anymore! The world has moved on, guess so should we!!! Sledging and Roasting has been a component of this game since long, adds to drama and spectacle but only looks good if done classily!Player of Bumrah’s calibre should…

Dear iccThis jasprit bumrah

Just imagine if it was a Pakistani player as an alternative of Bumrah, he would’ve been banned for atleast 3 matches. But with Bumrah, everyone knows the ICC won’t even fantastic him even after height shaming an opponent team captain on the sector simply because he’s an Indian pic.twitter.com/x2JECdQLiN— ????. There are lines in sport that even adrenaline can’t justify crossing. Height jokes & personal abuse on a stump mic aren’t “competitive spirit”-they’re just disrespect.A player of Bumrah’s stature shouldn’t be punching down like that. Literally or otherwise.#INDvsSA #bumrah pic.twitter.com/yHgpXm8iyH— soldiers village 🇮🇳 (@ChessMaster1902) November 14, 2025
During his stay on the crease after coming out to bat at No. 4. Bavuma scored 3 runs from 11 balls. He was sent back to the pavilion by Kuldeep Yadav on the sixth ball of the sixteenth over. Dhruv Jurel, who’s playing as a specialist batter for India in the continued red-ball match at Eden Gardens, accomplished his catch within the leg slip.
