Three people have been killed and three more wounded as a bus rammed right into a covered bus shelter within the centre of Stockholm.
The incident happened at around 3.24pm local time in Valhallavägen Street in Östermalm, an upscale district within the Swedish capital.
Police confirmed that the motive force of the bus has been arrested, adding that it was too early to say what had caused the crash.
‘There are each injured and deceased people within the incident,’ a press release said.
‘Police are for the moment not commenting on the number, gender or ages of the victims.’
Local media reported that there are victims who’re seriously injured and that some have been rushed to hospital.
Footage circulating on X shows a lot of police cars, ambulances and emergency services units at the positioning, with paramedics treating victims on stretchers.
A lady identified as Michelle Mac Key told Expressen that she stepped off one other bus on the scene just after the crash happened.
‘I crossed the road and saw the double-decker bus that had mowed down a whole bus stop queue,’ she said.
People were screaming and attempting to help the injured. She said she saw each injured and dead people lying on the bottom.
A nurse by career, she and one other man who was a health care provider offered their help to police once they arrived.
‘They told us to face next to the dead bodies,’ Michelle said. ‘I believed it was an exercise at first. That perhaps they were dolls. It was so unreal. Chaos.’
One other witness told Expressen the crash was ‘the worst thing’ they’d ever seen.

‘Unbelievably horrible, I heard plenty of screaming. I hope the injured are okay and get the most effective care,’ they added.
A big cordon has been arrange, and most of Valhallavägen Street, betweenOdengatan and Engelbrektsgatan, has been closed.
Police spokesperson Nadya Norton said a manslaughter investigation has been opened as a matter of routine.
‘We’d like to query the motive force, then we are going to see if he’s going to be released or detained,’ Norton said.
A spokesperson for bus company Transdev, Lovisa Åbom, confirmed that considered one of their vehicles was the one involved within the crash.

She told local media: ‘It’s considered one of our buses that was involved and it’s a double-decker. I also know that there are injuries, but I even have no details about the way it happened in the meanwhile’.
One other press officer added that at the least one camera is on board the bus that rammed the shelter, so it must have captured what happened.
Prime minister Ulf Kristersson said in a post on X: ‘We don’t yet know the reason for this, but right away my thoughts are foremost with those that have been affected and their families.’
Meanwhile, deputy prime minister Ebba Busch said that the federal government is closely following the developments and is in touch with authorities.
She added: ‘I’m devastated by the terrible news that individuals have lost their lives after a bus crashed right into a bus shelter in central Stockholm.’
