Conor Benn def. Chris Eubank Jr

Conor Benn began the fight very strongly. ‘The Destroyer’ pressed forward and mixed his shots to the body and head through three rounds.

Chris Eubank Jr. didn’t throw loads, but he landed a number of power shots that caught the eye of his opponent in the course of the first nine minutes of their rematch.

Benn was almost definitely 6-0 up on the scorecards on the midway point. Eubank didn’t throw much through 18 minutes, however it was unclear if he was holding back to attempt to win the fight within the latter rounds.

Benn almost spun Eubank’s head off his shoulders with the shot of the fight in round seven.

It gave the impression to be only a matter of time before he scored a knockout, but Eubank landed a flurry of shots in round eight to indicate he wouldn’t go down easily.

Heading into the championship rounds, Benn was in complete control of the fight, which Eubank had been unable to stamp his authority on in the course of the first half-hour.

Benn gave the impression to be coasting to a lopsided points victory until he scored a heavy knockdown in the ultimate minute of round 12. Eubank got up but quickly found himself down on the bottom again.

Ultimately, he was saved by the bell and finished the fight on his feet, however it was clear he had lost.

The judges scored the fight 119-107, 116-110, 118-108 in favor of Benn, who’s now a real world title contender.

Will there be a trilogy?

Despite them being tied 1-1, Conor Benn ruled out a trilogy during his post-fight interview.

“I feel like that is the tip of the Benn-Eubank saga. Done! Finished,” he said.

“Everyone said I can’t box, put that in your pipe and smoke it.

“Listen, this wouldn’t be what it was without Chris and our dads, most of all, that is generational.

“Credit to Chris, thanks for sharing the ring with me.”
