Sir Alex Ferguson has praised Manchester United’s decision to sign Senne Lammens and believes the goalkeeper has been ‘outstanding’ since joining Old Trafford.
United were available in the market for a brand new goalkeeper through the summer transfer window but after failing to sign Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa, the club opted to herald Lammens in an £18 million deal from Royal Antwerp.
Lammens had made just 52 appearances within the Belgian Pro League before his move to the Premier League and United had faced questions over whether the 23-year-old had enough experience to instantly grow to be Amorim’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Nonetheless, Lammens has looked solid in his first five appearances for United up to now and Ferguson has also been impressed with the club’s summer signing.
When asked if he’s glad with United’s recent run of form, Ferguson told Raceday RTV: ‘Well, they’re, the signs… the manager has had some good signs.

‘Particularly the goalkeeper has been outstanding, he’s only played three or 4 games and he’s looking really good.

‘After all, Mbeumo and Cunha, the brand new players from Wolves and Brentford, they’ve added to it. I hope the manager gets a little bit of success because at United you’ll want to have success. The signs are recovering.
‘I feel back-to-back wins is something teams like United should all the time expect. But having undergone a cycle where the development has to come back by waiting and being patient, they’re having fun with it now.’
Speaking earlier this month, United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, revealed that the club’s former goalkeeping coach, Tony Coton, who now works as a scout, played a key role in bringing Lammens to Old Trafford.
‘Tony Coton was putting Senne on my radar 12 months ago, and he was relentless with it,’ Wilcox said.
‘This guy goes to be a top signing for us, and he has began well, but he has got to maintain it going. He may be very reflective, and he may be very skilled together with his approach.
‘We were all the time goalkeepers who’ve huge potential. Senne was available and we decided to maneuver, but it surely wasn’t a knee-jerk response.’
