Conor Benn ‘not that good’ despite Chris Eubank Jr. win as British star rules out title victory

Despite his shutout victory over Chris Eubank Jr. in last night’s rematch, Conor Benn isn’t world champion material, in response to a British boxing stalwart.

Seemingly bringing an end to the familial feud, Conor Benn scored the primary Benn victory over the Eubanks within the capital, landing a lopsided decision win over former IBO champion Chris Eubank Jr.

Avenging his sole skilled loss, the Greenwich native pitched a shutout against his long-time rival, beating him from pillar to post over the course of 12 rounds.

And despite staking his claim for a shot at welterweight gold next, Benn is nowhere near championship level, so far as a heavyweight veteran is worried.

Dave Allen doubts Conor Benn can win a world title

Snatching a one-sided win, Benn even managed to attain two final-round knockdowns against a flat-footed Eubank Jr. en path to his historic win.

And calling for a shot on the WBC welterweight crown, still held by Mario Barrios despite his controversial draw with Manny Pacquiao earlier this summer, Benn is open to other championship outings, too.

But within the opinion of heavyweight star Dave Allen, Benn is unlikely to check the likes of Rolly Romero, Lewis Crocker, or incoming star Brian Norman Jr.

“He (Conor Benn) lost to a faded (Chris) Eubank (Jr.), then he just beat a shot to bits one,” Allen told talkSPORT. “That doesn’t mean — he’s not 147 [pounds] champion-elect, on the back of that. …The champions aren’t A-level champions, they’re B-level champions.

“…I don’t think Conor Benn is a improbable boxer,” Allen explained. “…He’s not that good. There’s no point in me standing here saying it was amazing; it wasn’t. …What we are saying in there tonight wasn’t world class boxing. It wasn’t even close. It wasn’t even close. Not close. And so they’re saying he’s 147 [pound] elect-champion, not even close.”

Conor Benn unsure on welterweight run

Competing at middleweight in each his clashes with Eubank Jr., Benn has claimed an prolonged run at welterweight is unlikely for him.

With sights firmly fixed on Barrios, Benn has revealed plans to emulate his father Nigel Benn’s success and scoop the WBC championship before too long.

“I don’t know the way long I could make 147 [pounds] for,” Benn said post-fight. “It’s going to be hard, after all, making 147 [pounds].

“It’s going to be difficult, but ultimately, that’s what we do. For me, it’s let me get that world title, for me that will probably be a box ticked.”
