Queen Camilla is raising eyebrows for recent comments she made to a British actress.
While celebrating King Charles’ 77th birthday at Cyfarthfa Castle on Friday, November 14, Camilla, 78, met with quite a lot of celebrities, including Gavin & Stacey star Ruth Jones.
In line with a video captured by the Each day Mail, the Queen warmly greeted Jones, 59, before commenting on her weight.
“Haven’t you lost masses of weight?” she asked while shaking Jones’ hand.
The actress — who appeared to take the remark as a compliment — responded, “Yes, I actually have, thanks! I’ve lost a little bit of weight!”

After the video surfaced online, some royal watchers condemned the queen’s comments.
“What [a] thing to say to a whole stranger,” one user wrote via X. One other follower added, “How rude of Camilla to debate [a] celebrity’s weight issue in the general public domain! Rude!”
Others, nonetheless, weren’t offended by the Queen’s remarks to Jones.
“I am actually really completely satisfied if someone noticed I lost weight since it takes a number of effort and it’s nice to be recognized,” one user wrote via X. “I believe it’s not so nice to say you have got gained a lot weight.”
One other follower kept the deal with Jones by commenting, “Aww Ruth looks fabulous and so healthy.”
Jones is best known within the U.K. for co-starring in Gavin & Stacey alongside James Corden. The show aired from 2007 to 2010. She also appeared in greater than 50 episodes of the TV series Stella.
Most recently, she appeared within the Gavin & Stacey 2024 Christmas special, which earned Jones the 2025 BAFTA Award for Best Female Comedy Performance.
The actress previously addressed her nearly 60-lb. weight reduction in a December 2024 podcast interview. She attributed her success to “aversion therapy” and hypnotist Paul McKenna’s training to assist her quit chocolate.
“I hate the word ‘struggled’ with my weight, but I actually have been in a battle with my weight all of my life,” she said on the “Table Manners” podcast with hosts Jessie and Lennie Ware. “So long as I can remember. I can’t ever remember being slim.”
While she was initially “a bit bit cynical” of McKenna’s treatment, she found it to achieve success for her.
“It worked. It completely worked,” she shared. “I didn’t eat chocolate for five years. I couldn’t stand the smell of it.”
In the course of the birthday celebration, Camilla and Jones were in a position to mingle with a wide range of guests, including actors Steve Speirs and Richard Harrington, TikTok creator Lewis Leigh and Love Island star Liam Reardon.
In line with the royal family’s official Instagram, guests sang “completely satisfied birthday” to Charles before he cut a bit of cake that was in the form of Cyfarthfa Castle.
To officially mark Charles’ birthday on Friday, the royal family released an official portrait of the king.
“77 today 🎈,” the family wrote via Instagram on the time. “Thanks for the sort words and well wishes on His Majesty’s Birthday.”
Charles later received thoughtful comments from lots of of well-wishers, including Donatella Versace and writer Jean Shafiroff.
