Nic Nemeth has remembered the moment he knew he wanted to go away WWE and what eventually led to his release.
Nemeth, aka Dolph Ziggler, had been an element of WWE for over 15 years and was seen as a dependable star who could go together with anyone within the ring. In an interview with “Insight,” he recalled getting an enormous deal from WWE, which is when he thought he would not stay there for a very long time.
“Signing my last deal for an astronomical amount of cash just to maintain me there was cool, but I said I do not see myself staying for the complete thing. I do not see you guys paying me for the complete three years of this because what I’m doing straight away is essentially ‘break glass in case of a pay-per-view match’ or any individual needs an opponent for something, and that is okay,” he said. “Nevertheless it really was quite a lot of money and I used to be ready to go away.”
The previous WWE Champion said that he desired to get out of his comfort zone in WWE and see if he might be a world champion elsewhere, as he wasn’t getting used to his full potential in WWE.
“And I’m going, I’m not going to remain for the full-time because I only have a certain quantity of years to be checked out as a top guy, world champion at any company. And if I stay for 3 full more years, it may be like one other yr after that. After which who knows how this works out,” Nemeth said.
During his final few years in WWE, he felt that he wasn’t being tested, which is when he decided to wrestle in Japan, TNA, and the indies.
Nemeth’s letter to WWE’s higher-ups
Nic Nemeth stated that he wrote an email to WWE’s higher-ups and pleaded with them to let him go, as he felt they were paying him greater than they were using him on television.
“I wrote a very, really long email to Vince, Hunter, Bruce, Ed, and possibly one other person, and it was, you understand, a compliment sandwich. ‘That is the best thing ever. I’m the luckiest guy on the earth. I won’t ever not say that, you are using me for a job that an area could be in, but you are paying me because the WrestleMania primary. That is bad for you,'” he reportedly told WWE. “And at this point, due to timing of the corporate about to be purchased by another person, that was the very best bet to get out of it. Because up to now, I have been like, ‘Hey, I would like out.’ They usually’re like, ‘Sorry, you are signed. You are not getting out of this.'”
Nemeth said McMahon was the just one to answer to his email, after which he requested a gathering with the previous WWE Chairman and aired his grievances. McMahon asked for every week to make a choice, and the next week Nemeth was included within the list of releases.
He eventually got what he wished for as he wrestled in NJPW in Japan, becoming the IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion, featured in AAA and won the AAA Mega Championship, and likewise in TNA, where he became the world champion. He also recently made a return to WWE, collaborating within the John Cena “Last Time Is Now” tournament, where he lost to Solo Sikoa.
