Was It Shade Or Just Song Promo?

On Monday, Muni Long shook the web when she posted a video featuring an extra-curvy Mariah Carey impersonator. The Instagram reel shows the faux Mariah auditioning for a singing competition while Muni poses as a judge. Afterward, the actress sings ‘Delulu’ lyrics, saying, “I’m delusional.” After the impersonator instructs Muni on tips on how to sing the song and leaves, Long stamps her application with ‘Delulu’ after which repeats a comment that the real Mariah Carey made a number of months ago—“I just don’t like when other people sing my songs.” Meanwhile, the singer’s caption says:

“THE DIVA!?!!!! My cute lil number? ✨✨✨✨✨🪽 and possibly…I can come around to people singing my songs if this who singing it!”

Muni used Mariah’s exact words. Carey said it in an interview in March, after Long and Tori Kelly performed a tribute to her on the iHeartRadio Music Awards. Mariah went viral that night, not just for stepping out with Anderson. Paak, but definitely for her facial expressions on the tribute. She later told GQ that she loves Muni Long, but didn’t know that she had done ‘We Belong Together’ as a canopy. After the interviewer said Muni Long made the duvet “her own,” Mariah said that she felt honored and flattered. But as for Mariah Carey’s songs? She said: “I really like Muni Long, she’s an amazing person, ummm, but I just don’t like people doing my song,” before reportedly laughing.

Muni Long Says She’s A Mariah Carey Stan

And while Muni Long’s first ‘Delulu’ skit continues to be making its rounds, she’s doubled down on the theme with skit. Again, she used the Mariah Carey impersonator. This time, the faux Mariah Carey is seen tossing Muni Long to the curb after the ‘Hrs & Hrs’ singer told her friends she’s “that girl.” The fake Carey popped out saying, “I’m that girl, but we love everyone before throwing Muni ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ style into the road. The caption says, “AND YOU KNOW WHAT?! She could push me off of each ledge in sight. THANK YOU!! I LOVE HA!! Now go stream #Delulu and show some respeck.”

Individually on Instagram Story, Muni Long directly addressed allegations that her first skit read as shade toward Mariah Carey. Screenshots of her IG Story post began floating around on social sites, like X, overnight Monday.

“Y’all don’t be delulu. I might never disrespect Queen Mariah!!!!!1 Eternally a lamb,” she wrote, adding a blue butterfly.
