Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has brutally dismissed Curtis Jones’ passionate interview that followed his side’s humiliating Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven.

For the second time in five days, the defending Premier League champions were thrashed at home in one other deeply worrying display from Arne Slot’s side.

Liverpool shipped three without reply against Nottingham Forest on Saturday with Dutch side PSV running riot at Anfield on Wednesday night, beating the hosts 4-1.

In an interview with Irish broadcaster RTE, Jones admitted Liverpool ‘are within the s**t’ and it needs to vary,’ also blasting his team’s lack of fight chatting with CBS Sports.

‘It’s got to be on me and the remaining of the lads to vary this around to not be so nice where teams are coming here considering, “we’re gonna win here and rating two, three, 4 goals.”

‘This was once a spot that you simply hated to return – with the fans and the way we’re going to play and the way we’re going to press and be absolute dogs.

‘Now we hardly even play. There’s times where we do play but off the ball stuff… I believe that’s the stuff that has to vary.’

Carragher, who also insisted Arne Slot’s position as manager will soon grow to be ‘untenable’, had little time for Jones’ reasoning, adamant there’s nothing stopping the players from working harder.

‘Curtis Jones isn’t young anymore actually, he’s a neighborhood player, he’s passionate and he is clearly hurting straight away and he has given an interview that can probably go in every single place,’ Carragher said.

‘I’d have loved to see Mo Salah speaking there as a substitute of Curtis Jones coming out. But when is saying, we’d like to place a tackle in, we’d like to catch up with to the ball, who’s stopping you?

‘The one thing in football someone can’t stop you doing is running. It won’t occur with the ball, or the power or the standard or people have lost confidence.

‘But nobody can stop you tackling, running and pressing. So when he’s saying we are usually not doing it, why aren’t they, then? Just do it. Don’t tell us you are usually not doing it or you will do it in the following game. Just do it. ‘

Defeat on Wednesday night was Liverpool’s ninth defeat in 12 games and their third loss by a three-goal margin in a row, marking their worst run of form in 71 years.
