This week’s PFR mailbag explores the Vikings’ QB outlook, Drake Maye‘s MVP case, a few of the top 2026 head coaching candidates and more.
Jordan asks:
The Vikings look to have made the fallacious bet on J.J. McCarthy. With a couple of reclamation-project QBs having success in recent times, what options do you’re thinking that might be there for in-house competition in Minnesota come 2026?
I should probably start this by stating the apparent: it’s way too early to totally declare McCarthy a bust this early into his profession. He has made just six regular-season starts up to now after not seeing the sphere in any respect as a rookie.
That can rightfully give McCarthy a little bit of leeway overall, nevertheless it’s undeniable he hasn’t developed as hoped thus far. I had relatively high expectations in his case entering the season based not on his college profession but slightly head coach Kevin O’Connell’s track record of getting essentially the most out of his quarterbacks. In that sense, there’s loads of time for things to show around.
