WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle officially hung up his boots, his singlet, and his Olympic gold medals after WrestleMania 35 in 2019, where he was easily defeated by Baron Corbin in a match that left lots to be desired for a lot of fans. Angle has remained retired since that night and has shown no real intentions of ever getting back within the ring, but as everyone knows by now, wrestling retirements aren’t built to last, because the roar of the gang and the texture of the canvas are only an excessive amount of for many wrestlers to keep away from.
So what wouldn’t it take to get Kurt Angle back in a wrestling ring, even when it was only for yet another match? He’s wrestled nearly all the best wrestlers of his generation, but in a 2022 interview with “Wrasslinews,” Angle revealed that the person he would like to have yet another match with can be John Cena, which is fitting considering that Cena’s WWE debut got here against Angle back in 2002. Sadly, that match won’t occur as Cena himself is retiring on December 13, 2025, on the WWE Saturday Night’s Important Event show in Washington, D.C.
Nevertheless, Angle did have another names in mind, and thankfully, his backup names are still energetic. I’d need a Roman Reigns, or a Seth Rollins,” Angle said. “Those are the names that I might pick because I do know those guys would carry me through a match.” Angle used Ric Flair’s retirement match in 2022, where he teamed up with Andrade El Idolo to tackle Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett for instance of getting someone younger within the ring to hold the match, which, in Flair’s case, that role was given to Lethal.
Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins may not be the one names Angle has in mind, as he, on a couple of occasion, has expressed how much of a fan he’s of former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega, who, as of 2024, was the person turning Angle’s head probably the most when it got here to getting back within the ring. Angle also namedropped Bryan Danielson as a possible opponent, who has retired from full-time wrestling, but many AEW fans expect to see him back within the ring in some unspecified time in the future in the longer term.
