The IPL auction longlist, featuring 1355 players, is out. The document was shared with franchises after the registration window closed on November 30, as per reports. Leading the list are 45 cricketers who’ve entered the best reserve price category of INR 2 crore. This elite group includes names reminiscent of Cameron Green, Liam Livingstone, Matheesha Pathirana, and Wanindu Hasaranga, with Venkatesh Iyer and Ravi Bishnoi being the one Indians.
With only 77 slots available across the ten franchises, including 31 for overseas players, the ultimate player pool will likely be refined once teams submit their shortlists by December 5. The auction, scheduled to happen in Abu Dhabi on December 16, will likely be a major event as teams aim to bolster their squads for the 2026 season.
A serious highlight will likely be on Australia’s Cameron Green, who missed the 2025 mega-auction on account of a back injury but stays highly wanted as an allrounder. Known for his versatility in batting, bowling, and fielding, Green is anticipated to draw intense bidding. Kolkata Knight Riders, with a considerable purse of INR 64.3 crore, and Chennai Super Kings, with INR 43.4 crore, are considered leading contenders, particularly as each teams have open overseas spots. KKR is more likely to be aggressive of their bidding following Andre Russell’s recent IPL retirement.
Several players recently released by their teams have also entered the highest price bracket. Pathirana, released by CSK despite being a vital death bowler in previous seasons, and Livingstone, let go by RCB after a disappointing 12 months, are outstanding amongst them. On the Indian front, Venkatesh Iyer and Ravi Bishnoi, previously retained for significant sums, have now placed themselves in the highest reserve category after being released by their respective teams.
No Maxwell!
The longlist notably excludes Glenn Maxwell, who suffered a fractured finger through the 2025 season, casting doubt on his IPL future. Interestingly, Australian wicketkeeper Josh Inglis, a key player in Punjab Kings’ journey to the 2025 final, has re-entered the auction pool despite reportedly being available for less than 25 per cent of the season on account of personal commitments.
International stars from 14 countries have registered, starting from established names like Steve Smith, Mustafizur Rahman, Rachin Ravindra, and Gerald Coetzee to emerging talents like Jake Fraser-McGurk and Jamie Smith. Shakib Al Hasan, an IPL veteran with 71 games across nine seasons, has set his reserve price at INR 1 crore.
Alongside top-tier overseas players, 16 outstanding Indian names, including Mayank Agarwal, KS Bharat, Rahul Chahar, Prithvi Shaw, and Navdeep Saini, have joined the auction fray.
There may be even an entry from Malaysia – India-born Virandeep Singh, a right-handed all-rounder, has registered for the auction with a base price of INR 30 lakh.
With INR 237.55 crore collectively available for teams to spend and diverse high-profile vacancies across franchises, the 2026 IPL auction is about to be a high-stakes battle for talent, strategy, and squad construction.
