Details in regards to the forthcoming The Witcher IV and its subsequent sequels were revealed at a recent CD PROJEKT RED earnings call. The Witcher IV was announced in December 2024. Not much has been revealed about it since, but co-CEO Michał Nowakowski has said that the event team is now fully staffed and has entered the full-scale production phase. He also added that it’ll not be released in 2026 and didn’t provide a planned release date, but did reveal an interesting goal of releasing the whole trilogy inside a six-year timespan and that the team may be very comfortable with the switch from using its internal engine to UE5.
“We’ve been using UE5 for The Witcher 4 for nearly five years now [IR comment: almost four
years], and we’re very comfortable with what we’ve achieved. I believe you can have seen a few of that
together with your own eyes with our tech demo reveal at Unreal Fest couple of months ago, and we’re very
comfortable with the outcomes of that as well – we’ve already said that, but I’m all the time comfortable to say it again
– and we’re comfortable with how the engine is evolving through the Epic team’s eYorts, and the way we’re
learning the best way to make it work inside an enormous open-world game, as TW4 is supposed to be.
In a way, yes, I do imagine that further games needs to be delivered in a shorter time period – as we had
stated before, our plan still is to launch the entire trilogy inside a six-year period, so yes, that
would mean we’d plan to have a shorter development time between TW4 and TW5, between
TW5 and TW6 and so forth” -Michał Nowakowski
It was a little bit of a surprise that after using Red Engine to develop the primary trilogy that CDPR has chosen to change over to Unreal Engine 5 for the following round of games, but they’re amongst various studios to make an identical alternative lately. Meanwhile, with The Game Awards right across the corner, some were hoping to see perhaps a brand new trailer or gameplay footage at this 12 months’s event, but evidently isn’t to be either.
I’m very comfortable to see The Witcher 4 nominated within the Most Anticipated Game category at The Game Awards. Because of everyone who has already voted – your support means lots of to us. We won’t be bringing any latest content to TGA this 12 months, but we’re, as all the time, excited to observe the…

Folks awaiting the remake for the primary game could have a bit longer to attend since its team over at Idiot’s Theory is primarily working on The Witcher IV. No date for The Witcher Remake was given however it doesn’t sound prefer it’ll be arriving anytime soon.
“By way of Idiot’s Theory – I believe we stated up to now that the vast majority of the team is currently involved in the opposite project, and likewise support for The Witcher 4, so there’s some limited team working on TW1, but because it’s very much tied with TW4 development – this can be why we made this move, and we now have explained that up to now – so, for TW1 per se, it’s a smaller group of individuals.”
What about AI?
AI has been a controversial topic inside the gaming industry, whether it’s to be used in game development to it being attributed to mass layoffs as publishers seek lower development costs by replacing staff. The query got here up in the course of the earnings call, asking about this, to which Nowakowski clarified that while CDRP does use AI to help in productivity areas and “it’s not gonna be making The Witcher 5, or 6, or anything like that.”
